Saindak Fm
Type Locality and Naming

Lithology and Thickness
Sandy claystone. The formation consists of interbedded shales, sandstone, limestone and minor volcanic conglomerate in the western part of the province. The shale is green, yellowish brown, greenish grey brown and calcareous. The limestone is usually dark grey, yellowish brown and weathers light grey, and is fossiliferous. In some places, the red shale contains beds of white and fairly pure gypsum.
Thickness: 60-1,500 m. The maximum thickness of the formation is not less than 1,500 m. At Gwalishtap it reduces to only 60 m due to erosion.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformably underlain by Rakhshani Fm
Upper contact
Conformably overlain by Amlaf Fm (Oligocene) volcanics at Saindak, and unconformably overlain by Bostan Fm (Pleistocene) at Gwalishtap.
Regional extent
Restricted to northwestern part Chagai- Raskoh Magmatic Province (C-RMP).

Fossils
Foraminifers include Assilina dandotica, A. exponens, Fasciolites oblonga, Linderina brugesi, Opertorbitolites douvileli etc., while Echinolampas nummulitica (echinoid) and Velates perversus (gastropod) are important among other fossils.
